My steadfast commitment to the quality of public education has been evident in every public office I have held and will not waver. My five children are all alumni of our public-school system, as are my wife and I. My grandchildren are and will be attending Harford public schools for years to come and I have numerous relatives teaching in our schools.
As a Bel Air Town Commissioner & Mayor, I was a strong advocate for the construction of the new high school and the Board of Education headquarters building. As a member of the County Council, I was one of the lead sponsors of the law that requires that adequate public schools exist in an area before additional residential development can take place in that area. As a member of the Maryland Senate I successfully advocated for additional funding for teachers’ salaries, funding for school improvements, and funding for construction of the new Havre de Grace Middle and High Schools.
